Weather Observation with Raspberry Pi – Vol4 Painting Metal
2016-10-05 21:18:52
I kept painting on only wood, but time has come… the time to paint on metal! Painting Metal The way to paint on metal and plastic is different from the way to paint on wood. We can’t use brushes! If you use brushes, they make striped pattern. Durability is another concern. Oil-finishing and dye-based paints harden wood at the same time so that the paint itself doesn’t come off easily. This doesn’t happen when we paint on metal. Paint can’t soak into metal or plastic. This means paint itself has to harden. I bought this one. The explanation says: Not suitable for these materials: Aluminum, Stainless, Plastic, Styrofoam, and glass …

Tabilog was introduced by Levtech
2016-09-28 23:52:35
Tabilog was introduced by a human resource agency! I’m proud to announce that Tabilog was introduced by Levtech, a human resource agency specialized in computer field. The post can be found at “Skill Up” – “From Raspberry Pi to Mini 4WD – 21 Selection of IoT Experience“. Making IoT devices is getting common, isn’t it? FYI, There is no relationship between Levtech and Tabilog other than linking pages.

Weather Observation with Raspberry Pi – Vol3 Soldering
2016-08-21 19:21:07
I Soldered Raspberry Pi and Probe. Soldering the circuit for Pi I soldered the circuit I have designed before. Soldering the circuit for Raspberry Pi was easier than soldering the circuit for the probe because there is enough space. This is the circuit after soldering. I connected the circuit right above the GPIO pins. This is another side. As you can see, the circuit can be easily detached so that I can swap them if there is a problem. Solid wire and stranded wire I used solid wires “SHW-S 0.65 2mx7 Colors” which were introduced before on the post “Tools I bought besides Raspberry Pi“. Since 2016 I use stranded …

Weather Observation with Raspberry Pi – Vol2 Cutting
2016-08-11 11:17:02
Making cases for the circuits is a big job! Buying cases and circuit boards I walked through Akihabara and found a case that seemed to enough big to have a pi and circuit board. This is a Takachi TD9-12-4N, an aluminum case sold for JPY 820 (USD7.00). I chose an ABS plastic case Takachi SW-50 for the probe case. It was sold for JPY 100. I chose a TB-17. This board is for circuit for Raspberry Pi. It is enough big to have all the GPIOs. I noticed later that I could make boards on my own. This is advantage when I choose cases and circuits. This board is sold …

Weather Observation with Raspberry Pi – Vol1 Circuit
2016-07-24 16:35:36
I made a Weather Observation Machine with a Raspberry Pi and it is running for one year! Making a logger by myself When I was in Puno, I was wearing a black sweater on the street where the temperature was above 100 Fahrenheit! (40 Celsius degrees) But I didn’t even have sweat. What I was wearing was not a sweater? (LOL) Read “Peru Trip and Altitude Sickness” for the story. Unusual experiences in Puno were enough for me to consider logging temperature, humidity and air pressure of my room. I searched with the word “humidity logger”, and found some products, but I didn’t want to buy them because they were …

Peru Trip and Altitude Sickness
2015-06-05 22:30:37
The amazing travel experience in Peru drove me making weather observation system with my Raspberry Pi. I could finally post something related to travel which is the origin of the name of this blog, “タビログ”. My Peru experience I was dreaming of visiting Machu Picchu, which came true! Before visiting Machu Picchu I visited a town named Puno. In general, tourists go to Cusco before Machu Picchu, but I needed to visit Puno because of my schedule. The weather environment was incredibly hard. I went to Peru in June which was winter (dry season). The season is opposite to the United States. This time is the best season for visiting …

Paints and Woods – The Best “Match”
2015-05-15 22:36:44
I wanted to know which paints match which woods. I tested 6 paints and 5 woods this time. Which one do you like? So what the differences? There are many paints at stores. Don’t you think which one is better or what the difference is? That is exactly why I chose these paints. I couldn’t tell which one matched which one. Today’s goal is to bring out the best in woods. Teak and walnut are fine woods and they are used for furniture. I wanted to know which paints bring out the best in these woods. I have also tested Japanese beech. It is used for toys because it has …

Way to live this epoch
2015-04-13 12:11:13
People used to think like this: “If machines took care of daily work for us, we could spend time on what we want do.” Time has passed. Housekeeping and simple works are done by machines. We don’t need to prepare water and firewood. We don’t need to use carriages anymore. So can we spend time on what we want do? I don’t think so. Human beings are still working from morning until night. Honestly time we spend for work became longer. Why do we live? Do we work for live? Do we live for work? Way to live depends on individuals. No one knows your answer. It is trial and …

How to paint Kigatame Ace
2015-03-15 22:12:02
Have you heard a paint named “Kigatame Ace”? This paint is used not only for DIY lovers but also professionals who maintain cultural properties. Painting dishes Through my process of all paints on wood pieces, I was interested in painting on products sold at furniture and interior stores. For example, this is a spoon sold at Mujirushi. I liked this paint because… the touch is smooth its reflection is less the wood is well protected If I paint varnish, the surface looks like plastics. If I paint oil like Watco, the surface and the touch are the way I love, but oil is not good for dishes. (More precisely, the …

How to paint Osmo – with sample photos
2015-01-16 22:26:10
I have painted Washin water-based urethane varnish and Watco oil finishes, but there is one paint I hadn’t tryed – Osmo. The reason is simple. They are expensive! I paid to know why. What is Osmo? Osmo is wax. Once it is paint, it soaks in wood and gets hard. It does not only color but also protects wood from being scratched and water. After I painted, I thought Osmo took both good sides of Watco and water-based urethane varnish. Watco can remain wood’s touch. Water-based urethane varnish can protect surface very well without maintenance. Osmo is syrupy Osmo is syrupy. I mixed just in case, the inside was not …
